Launches in NC nearish emerald isle?

Postby domdino » Thu Mar 06, 2008 12:14 am

Hiya

I'm heading to emerald isle the end of the month for a couple of days to do some kiteboarding and help my girlfriends progression a bit, was wondering if anyone could tell me about any rules / regulations there and where the best launches are exactly? Would be nice if there was some flatwater for her to practice on if possible?

Thanks in advance :) Maybe see some of you lot there!

Or is there anywhere else nearby? I would love to goto hatteras but the drive from RDU would kill me at the time of night we arrive, and since we'll only be there for two days it's kinda rough...

I am down in Wilmington and Wrightsville Beach but have spent some time in Emerald Isle. There is a nice crew of riders up there. Most of the riding there is ocean riding doing downwinders. They do have good sounds up there but you really need a boat to access them if I am not mistaken.

Down here we also do a lot of ocean riding. With south winds our ocean riding is calmer than EI. A SW up there blows up swell and current pretty quick. Down here it does not nearly as much. One of our main spots, the south end, has a jetty upwind on a S wind and it cuts down on the current and the chop. We do have a spot called the basin that is flat water. You can find info on the local riding locations in the Cape Fear at http://www.gokitesurf.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; .

Hope that helps!

hey, march can offer a variety of conditions and directions so feel free to give me a holler at the shop when you get here and i can give you the lowdown. the spot cheryl is talking about in the previous post is perfect for learning so that would be ideal to hook up with them. chris
