Setting up a proper race course

Postby Rbgar » Fri May 02, 2008 2:56 pm

Just wondering if there's any guidlines for setting up a race course? Length of legs?, is there a true beat? windward/leward course? Olyimpic course? Triangle courses???? What course is being set in the San Fran racing?
Thanks,
John

There are serveral courses being setup if you search "motionbased.com" for al-kite-a and race you can see some of the course by looking at my GPS track.
Here is link to one of the races on May 1 using Google maps and my GPS data.

This is the most common set up we have in SF.
We start by race up wind to a mark.
Then down wind to a mark , The finish line is about half the length of the starting line and you can not go through it on the down wind leg.

I would note that we are very lucky, the people running our races are paid professional and setup courses and run sailboat races for a living.

ok thanks Al

looks like you guys run a about 1/2 mile beat upwind, round to starboard windward mark, 1 mile run downwind (can't go thru start/finish line), round to starboard the leward mark then a 1/2 mile beat to the finnish ?
