We had 2 great training sessions today. Damo, Jesse, Shawn, Garry, Alex, and Patrick were getting dialed in. Jesse and Shawn came in a bit late to the game and were a bit off the pace to start. With in a few minutes with the help of Alex, both had improved substantially and are now humming around the water. We ran powered 13's today, but tomorrow racers will see gusts to the upper 20's. I'm guessing that most riders will be on 8's and 9's and therefore we should see speeds in excess of 32-33 knots off the wind.

There are only 2 course choices and both feature a windward finish. It's either 1 lap or 2. The race officer said that he will probably set the one lap course, but really stretch it out a bit. He's shooting for 15-18 minutes for the first finisher and there is a 15 minute time limit after the first finisher. He said that he would really like to get in 16 races if possible to get the 4 through outs. As many Euros are coming up to a day late, they should hopefully remain in the game if we get 4 tosses.

I think we will see some very tight racing tomorrow and I'd guess that everyone will take a spill or two off the wind. Keeping it together will be the key to winning races. I'll keep you posted. Good luck to all riders!

The first day was windy and choppy, hard work for all kiters. Sky Solbach won the first race but then Adam Koch won four in a row. Most kites were 7 or 9m.

The abbreviations are standard ones from the racing rules of sailing and are usually built into the regatta software used for the scoring. Here's the full list:
