Is there a swivel that does not jam up?

Postby ronnie » Sun Aug 08, 2010 8:32 am

Anyone have an inline [ ie. can be mounted at the bottom of the front lines ] swivel that keeps operating freely and doesn't start jamming up after a while?

haven't found one...when i lay my lines out, i make sure my swivel works...if it works on the beach, 90% of the time it works on the water. Occasionally, i give it a spray of WD40 of silicone lubricant.

the only one that has never yet jammed up for me is the slingshot 2010 comp bar swivel, up to date its been brilliant on both bars 3 months in.

swivels are useless. Just do back/frontrolls to untwist the lines or unhook and streighten out your lines while riding.

The swivel from Flexifoil works damn good, but your lines are locked to it.
No front-line release.

It has small ball bearings, can be flushed out easily, and is serviceable.
I've never had it jam, if I just give it a splash and twist before I launch.

I've ordered extra ball bearings, and got c-clips from the hardware store.

I use it with a 5th-line, but that is not necessary.

I've been using the same swivel since 2007, still works as good as the day I bought it.

Thanks for the replies.

I found these opinions on the Slingshot and Flexifoil swivels.

I'm using the 09 Cab IDS swivel. I free it up before going out, but usually cant get it completely free running.

Another (probably better) possibility is to have a chickenloop with a hole through the centre of its swivel. Maybe Cabrinha will come up with one - then the IDS line could be leashed to inside the chicken loop and the lines untwisted by turning the Q/R.

Ronnie,
The 2010 Cabrinha swivel is an improvement over the 2009 as it doesnt become jammed very easily. Saying that if too many rotations are made on only one side when using the 2010 swivel you will still be forced to rotate on the other tack to undo the center line twist.

Thanks - so there is still a bit of drag which is pretty much inevitable.
There are some 2010 Cabs locally, so I'll check how the swivel feels.

I'll see if anyone has a CAB swivel chickenloop to see if a hole could be drilled in the centre for the IDS line and still leave enough metal. The donkeydick would then have to be a big cabletie on the spreader bar and a kiteleash to the IDS ring. Releasing the Q/R might damage the IDS line though, so its unlikely to be suitable.
