First event of the Naish Kite Race Series

Postby alex a » Sun Jul 11, 2010 5:56 pm

The 1 st event of the Naish Kite Race Series went off yesterday at Naish Beach (Flash Beach) here on Maui. Condition were nice with a little bit lighter wind at around 15 -25 knots.
With very little information on how to enter for this race, a huge crowd showed up of more than 40 competitors! So for summer time kite action here in Maui, there was a big interest to do a little bit of racing!
Racing consisted of 3 classes: Race, Surfboard, and Twin Tip divisions.
Some of the the starts were fantastic to watch with the action right next to the beach! There should be some really nice photos coming out from the event.
The were at least 80 kites rigged up on the beach and tons of people watching.
Next race is in two weeks.
Hopefully the next event will have the shadow box event going too. This is where a GPS will measure the height of jumps. This is bound to be a big crowd favorite and get back to the roots of kiting and get huge air again!!
Big Mahalos to Toast and Ian for getting the event together!

Alex-

Thanks! It was great to see the turnout!

The next event will be even better. We are hoping for a bigger fleet of race-boards and I am sure that we will see a fair number of people getting tuned up in the next two weeks.

The experienced racers like yourself, Jesse, Patri, and Christian were setting the pace and certainly inspiring many to get out there.

The surfboard and twin tip fleets were a blast to watch. Many riders were asking about tactics by the end of the day. We should see a big increase in those fleets as well.

Thanks Alex!!

Will be posting up race results and more info tomorrow with pictures as well.
Definitely a fun time and a lot of riders of all skill levels competing in 3 different classes (Race-Surfboard-Twintip)
There will be a jump contest as soon as the Shadowboxes are available. Right now that looks to be the events in August(7th and 21st).

Any questions about the up coming events can send an email to
Race@Naishsails.com
