"17" is the MAGIC number for light wind inflatables. "KEN" you bring out a Rebel "LW" 17M Fun to fly, user friendly "One pump 5 struts in 2 color choices"? You will have a "WINNER" :) $upaEZ :)

I have a 2008 16m Rebel and I think it's an amazing kite. Very easy to keep in the air and pulls like a truck. If the Dyno is better it must be an awesome performer.

Supa EZ is on the right track. The 2010 16M Rebel pulled like a Tractor and handled great. The upwind was second to none that I have flown. The key to the Rebel is the loaded fifth line which has a lot to do with quick turning. If you are my size and fly "Juiced" with a big kite and if the wind gets crazy having to land the kite by yourself the fifth Line gives me Peace of mind.

That's my 1 and 1/2 cents.

In original post did you like the play on words? "KEN" and "WINNER". Thank you Puetz,W.Munney,LM Rutledge for your inputs. Now to answer "Noel" 16 Dyno not too small / 18 Dyno not too big! Reason is that beside riding the "18" i ride the the "ridiculously" BIG $$$PEED3 21! Now to answer Rpm yes the 16 Dyno is better in many aspects to 16 Rebel but "fun to fly and user friendly" that i am not so sure. Why offer the public 2 kites so close in sizes and offering only one color choice ? Also would it hurt North financially to include at least a"5 lines set of 2.5m extensions" with every Dyno sold at n/c? I did extensive tests with the 18 and it flies so much better with 27.5m lines. But back to the subject at hand. 17 meters is still the "magic" size and if North would design a Rebel " LW" 17 it would have many many Rebels riders want one!! Dyno"s are not for very user friendly and easy to fly for "newbies" who are looking to NORTH for their light air needs. P.S. the 18m could also use a bit wider bar "probably 5cm wider". "LW" means a "specially designed Rebel" not just an oversized one! The most loved kite in the world is the Rebel because of the "feel" of the loaded 5th!! So NORTH if you want to make the world "happy" that is what i suggest. :) :)

I think the 16 and the 18 are super friendly. I like the 16 on 24 meter 4 lines for fun and freestyle, I also use a 5 line 32 meter set for uber light wind on either size.

Unhooked trick on the 16 with 4 line 24m set.

... Hey billy, really nice pic by the way.

I have a Dyno 18m and love it but it 'aint like my beloved Rebel 2010 16m that I used to ride. I treated the old 16m like others treat their 12m, loops jumps, it was all round fun, where as the 18m is just a little slow and doesn't loop as nice, its a light wind, easy, get you going in stuff all kite, purpose built to do this.

My missus doesn't like big kites but she likes the Dyno, so it does exactly what it is ment to do as designer intended,,, but,,, it still isn't my beloved Rebel where I could give it some and not worry about the lightness and build. I worry it won't stand up to my heavy style (or lack of it) so I ride it accordingly, take it easy, do not bang it in the drink trying stupid tricks, it is a light wind kite after all. I used it recently on holidays in Bali, in some small waves with the occasional head high set using a twin tip and had an absolutely fantastic time. Not sure if Ken intended it to be use in waves but it went great, once I got my timing and the turning delay, great fun. I still think my Rebel 2010 would have been better though!

Anyway, this years kites are done so its all moot point, maybe next year hey!!

cheers,

Robbie :D

Hello Billy B. I am sure the 16 & 18 Dynos are user friendly to you. Looks to me that we are both experienced kiters (12 yrs +) We are not "Newbies". The Dynos for us are a blast! I was looking out for those much less experienced who will find the Dyno more of a chore to set up (not one pump) 7 struts and long leading edge. Surely challenging to self-launch in 8 knots because they could be all alone at their "spot" since no one is there in such light air.The kite is high aspect ratio and for "newbies" more difficult to fly.Needs more precision and light touch not to drop it. It is a great kite that thrives on apparent wind and "newbies" may not be able to achieve that like we do. If North wont consider a Rebel "LW" 17M maybe in 2012 they should drop 16 & 18 Dyno's and only make a 17M Dyno in 2 color choices with a bit "lesser" high aspect and go one pump. Just a thought because "17" is right down the middle. I am a common sense type of person. Why have to decide between 2 sizes "so close" in a large kite? Thanks! Honestly :) :)
