Hurican season is upon us!

Postby spanishkay » Wed Aug 24, 2011 8:41 pm

As most of you know here in great Florida our first real storm of the season is on her way to our back porch. Just a friendly reminder/warning to all of you planning on catching some of her wonderful blessings. BE SMART, BE SAFE, and most of all KNOW YOUR LIMITS.

Winds UP!

KNOW LIMITS?? :jump:
NO LIMITS!!!!

The swell is just starting to get to SC and between the kiters and surfers here everyone is just starting to get giddy, Big grins, calling each other, planning when to take off work. It's like the day before christmas. This storm is going to give us the perfect run by with pre-storm wind and post-storm waves.

Nothing like the first storm of the season...

Damn i know!! The waves are here already as of today and the winds will be getting here tomorrow, can't wait! Thinking about heading to Sebastian inlet for some monster hole wave riding. should be epic either way!! If she gets to be a CAT 4 it may become more survival mode versus play mode.

Winds Up!

These are some of the "blessings" being extended to the Bahamas due east of Sebastian Inlet. Who wants to go out and kite 135 kt. wind and 42 ft. seas?* Must be some from all the enthusiasm over this natural disaster. Your blessings are in the process of devastating homes and lives in the Bahamas. It is currently aimed at OBX and the east coast up through Maine in the next few days for more mayhem for a few tens of millions of people.

Sebastian being so far west of the storm track has much milder conditions. "Northeast winds 25 to 30 knots with gusts to around 45 knots. Seas 9 feet with a dominant period 9 seconds building to 14 feet with a dominant period 9 seconds in the afternoon." In squalls winds could go 60 kts. or higher.

What size kite are you going to rig for 25 ranging to 45 to 60 kts. and how much time do you have in those conditions already?

*"FORCE AND HURRICANE CONDITIONS SPREADING NW AND N WITH HIGHEST
WINDS 105 KT GUSTS TO 130 KT INCREASING THU TO 115 KT GUSTS 135
KT. TROPICAL STORM FORCE OR GREATER WIND WITHIN 220 E AND 130 W
SEMICIRCLE. HIGHEST SEAS 34 FT THIS EVENING BUILDING TO 42 FT
FRI. ELSEWHERE W OF 70W WINDS 20 TO 33 KT. SEAS TO 12 FT. E OF
70W SE WINDS 15 TO 25 KT DIMINISHING TO 15 TO 20 KT FRI. SEAS 7
TO 10 FT SUBSIDING TO 5 TO 9 FT FRI. NUMEROUS SQUALLS AND TSTMS
IN BANDS WITHIN 300 NM OF IRENE."

Had a great session yesterday on the 9m, was looking at going out today but it looks too gusty to be any fun, and it's already blowing offshore now :(
