After reading this thread I checked with airush on the Monaro, more out of curiosity..

"we are using a full 160gm Carbon top and Bottom and a full Corecell Sandwich top and bottom. This is the most expensive way to build them and I cant see a lighter layup holding up!"

I have seen it time and time again in the windsurf industry (I raced at international level for nearly 15 years) and if you are prepared stick your board back together on a weekly basis and put it in the bin at the end of the year then you can get the weight low, but for production...?

Good point, I hadn't thought about it like that. Like unsprung weight in a car.

If the board doesn't break that means is was too heavy, if it does break then it was too light. :D

There is a huge amount of acceleration up and down as Handy pointed. It results a pure drag. In addition Kite and fins are lifting too (decreases board surface load) . So +1 kg board weight could be as bad as +5 kg rider.

So what's up with the production boards??? Why are they not on the market yet? Are the finboxes still drinking water??

Have they already hit the market in the States?

In Europe, only teamriders seem to have it so it's hard to have some unbiased review on them.

It would be nice to have a comparison between the Airush, RRD and North by someone who tested them back to back.

I say make your own. If its just for light wind cruising and not you have no local competitions anyway, then a home made board gives added satisfaction in knowing you made this thing yourself, and you still fly past all the other kiteboarders.

Plus, there are great making videos on the net. G Bleck did very nice videos.

I am almost finished with my second 70cm wide tri-fin board. And normal 40cm windsurf fins work nicely.

Which model windsurf fins have worked good for you?

How do you get cant in your windsurf fins? Do you have to re-pot them in new bases?

I went to the windsurfing shop and tried to find 2 identical fins of about 40cm long that were quite straight. They were relatively cheap and stiff, and came in power box inserts. They worked great for light wind. But they vibrate at speeds over 18 knots, but I think that is because of my finboxes and poor construction on my first try at making a board.

For fin cant I put the finboxes in at about 3 degrees, so that I can use standard symmetrical windsurf fins. I could only get power box inserts locally (not the standard tuttlebox inserts), but they are of similar strength I think. And they only have one screw per fin so its faster to rig. Plus they happen to be cheaper and there are more windsurf fins available in 40cm power box at my local shop.

My rear fin is a 31cm fin, and despite so much smaller than the front fins (normally the rear is only 4cm smaller from what I can gather) it still works fine. In fact, my board is more comfortable to ride than the North 2011 69 raceboard, but that is likely personal bias.

I am a small manufacturer if you have started the production in these days,
I noticed that almost no one is able to provide raceboard,
it is difficult for large manufacturers such as RRD Nort
I figured if I try with my small business.
So I started in my laboratory directly aprodurre
facing large expenses.
try to understand that if you put the CONSTRAINTS
will be sold only RRD and Nort :thumb:
we want the Olympics are open to all?
