I've never seen any reviews for the 178, but I've got the 183x59. The fins on the 178 look really small. I'd go with the 183. There are a bunch of brand new 183's on Ebay right now for less than that price. Kinda killing the resale value of mine, haha!
I liked the 183 for learning to ride the race board. Goes upwind incredibly well and great for light wind riding. According to GPS I can go 25 knots in 10-12 knots of wind.

Why do you want a raceboard for medium winds? Usually if it's blowing over 15 knots I'll ride my twin tip.

Can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not about going pro. If you want to "go pro in kite racing", you need one of the new 69cm - 70cm tri-fin boards. These older boards can't compete with them. It seems like the top riders are riding these larger boards no matter what the wind is.
