Experience on these raceboards? North 2011, 2012, RR K70 etc

Postby Dr_Rosen » Mon May 27, 2013 6:56 am

I am looking to buy my first raceboard for freerace fun/lightwind (no competition).

Around here the following is for sale
- North 2011
- North 2012
- RRD K70
- Royal 2012 model (70 cm)
- Nomad SKD

Can anyone comment on things like durability and user-friendliness?
I have ridden a RRD K65 a few times an do fine (former windsurfer).

The Nomad looks like the attached picture

I like the looks of the RRD K70 but have been told it is more difficult to ride than other boards?
North I hear mixed about on the quality on both 2011 and 2012
Royal 2012? The 2011 quality sucked I hear?

The North 2011:

Thanks !

The North LTD 2012 rides well if you get one without manufacturing issues. That said the build quality is less than ideal. I have one of the later 2012s and to be honest both the engineering and manufacturing is horrible, but the shape is good so you kind of forgive its flaws.

I do not think you can find anyone with experience on all of those. The SKD board looks like a custom design and it is not IKA certified so you probably need to try it yourself to find out.

The Royal 2012 is probably ok as well I see quite a few of them. The K70 is well made but a bit harder to ride than most of the the 2012 race boards. Despite being a bit heavy RRD boards seem competitive and quite durable.

There is a lot of preference involved in this and synergy between, board/fins/kites/rider and so on.

I have the 2012 North Ltd 69 2nd edition.
No problems with the fin placements or angles.
I didn't really like the inside straps, so I took them off and it rides great from 10mph to 30.
Tons of fun once you get used to the awkward leeward edging...

I live in TX and would sell it for $1000 if you are interested.

Hi why not have a look @ the Airush sector range these boards are exactly what you are looking for..the sector board is great for cruising, long distance.
They are really easy in use, tri or quad fin setup etc.cruising, racing with mates, easy jibes.
I owned from sector v1 till now V4 is on its way!
Good luck
