IKA News:
World Rankings Update, Entry deadline for the Kiteracing Worlds
Following a busy summer in Europe with a couple of PKRA freestyle/slalom events and the recently held European Kiteracing Championships, the world rankings have been updated to reflect the latest standings as of 9th August 2013.
Due to injuries of some of the top riders, the situation in both the mens and womens freestyle fleet has become quite relaxed, with Alex Pastor (ESP/Airush) having a clear lead over Mark Jacobs (NZL/Switch) and the injured defending world champions Youri Zoon (NED/Best). In the womens fleet, Karolina Winkowska (POL/Slingshot) still has a minimal lead over Gisela Pulido (ESP/Best), but is injured as well as Bruna Kayija (BRA/Airush).
With the registration deadline for the 2013 Kiteracing World Championships approaching fast, the rankings will see one more update after the last qualification event - Cork OCR regatta in Canada - on the 26th of August. Currently leading the mens fleet is Riccardo Leccese (ITA/Ozone/ML) ahead of Florian Gruber (GER/North) and Adam Koch (USA/Ozone/ML). In the womens division, Steph Bridge (GBR/North) has defended her lead over Katja Roose (NED/Airush) and defending world champion Erika Heineken (USA/Ozone/ML).
150 competitors - 123 men and 27 women - are registered so far for the World Championships held in Hainan Island/China later this year. With only 105 places for the mens fleet freely available (10 places are reserved for regional wildcards and 5 places for injury wildcards), already 18 riders are placed on the waiting list. Make sure your name is listed at http://www.internationalkiteboarding.or ... plications before the registration deadline on August 26, late registrations will only be accepted by special approval and if places become free on the waiting list.
Places to the waiting list will be given to the riders initially placed on August 26 in order of their world ranking position, and thereafter by entry date.
