best deal around

i got a lab70 with 37cm/35cm fins from rista. i am not in a place where i can race but i got the board for high speed cruising and covering distance across lakes and bays.

after speaking with paolo he told me that this particular finset is much much easier to control but because of how he pots the fins, they are faster on top speed, but can still point like a larger fin.

i have found the board to be not too difficult to dial. i have about 10 hrs riding it and am hitting all of my gybes and getting my speed up with each session. still cant tack. not even close actually.

i think the smaller slalom/race fin from rista has made a big difference in the learning curve.

... good choice! I know I'm a bit late here but I wanted to let you know your logic and choice of board is good and I can confirm your desision, coming from a big guys perspective.

I'm same weight as you and I have both the Sector V3 60 and 66. From what I have seen, the V3 60 looks basically the same as the V4 (saw one while recently on holidays) and the 66 One Design is same as the V3 66.

Although the 66 gets going a little earlier it does ride harder and not easy to keep still when riding in choppy water at top speed. The 60 is easier to ride and more cruisier relaxed ride and nearly as quick with top end being similar. The upwind is similar too but if you push the 66 you can go faster upwind but as you said in your first post, you wanted a cruiser board which the 60 does well.

I don't have anyone to race with usually. Only one other guy with a 70cm board in Austin. Still love riding it though. Once you get it locked it

agreed...and it is the only part of kiteboarding that gives any significant workout.

well, for the tack..are you thinking duck tack or regular tack?
It might be easier than you think. Aguera gave me some hints that ended up really changing my failed attempts...I really had not tried too much though. Good fun and it'll increase your kite control a lot too...

Once you start making the tacks, the raceboard is a lot more fun. Then you can really make some ground exploring upwind. You lose a lot of ground jibing.

I find the "back to the wind tack" much easier than the "backroll/facing the wind" tack. Especially now that I have the 70 cm board. It's so stable and has so much volume that the board really floats you when you stand on it in the "back to the wind" tack.

This video is with a surfboard, but I thought it was pretty good, and same concept. In most other instructional videos, it seems like they use too much power in the kite and wind up jumping way above the board. I think what you really want is to just hang there with your feet still touching the board and shuffle it around with your feet around:

First of all you actually shoot upwind while tacking. More so doing a duck tack.
I'm finally going straight into opposite footstrap, which means there is no support dive of the kite..

for me the there were two major things that got me onto the duck tacks......the has to be pulling in the other direction before moving, and adding more speed the process. Once I had more speed it was pretty easy.
