Spinning 5th-line for Cs

Postby Noabacca » Mon Jan 14, 2008 5:37 am

Have any of the kite companies come up
with a solid system on a simple bar?
What ever happened to the SS "Center of the Universe"?

Anyway, here's an old idea, that I'm throwing out, but.

I've been using an 06 Slingshot bar for the past
year with a Flexifoil spinning front line swivel, and
have never seen a better system, for a sheetable and
spinning 5th-line.

Image

The Flexi part has 1.5 mm ball bearings, and can be
taken appart and cleaned, unlike most others that I've seen.
In my case, I needed to add more bearings since the part was shipped with
only 5 inside and was binding up.
It holds closer to 10 bearings and fortunately,
1.5mm stainless bearings are available at McMaster-Carr

The only part I had to modify beyond adding the
$59 spinner, was to replace the 5th-line leader, since
the Flexi part has an inner diameter that was a hair too small
for the stock 5th-line leader. In this case I used an outside line
leader from my old B5 bar. Unfortunately, even with this line
I still could not use the "wave grenade" since just the looped
portion of the leader and the plastic sheething was too fat
to go through the hole Flexifoil spinner.

Oh yeah, and the leaders for the front lines were simply cut
from the stock front line leader that came wrapped on the ring,
I cut that on marked line, into two equal pieces, and tied knots on the
free ends for the front lines to attach

Anyway, just thought I'd share my experience
incase anybody out there is sick and tired of their
5th-line wrapping around the center lines after asymmetrical
sessions

The flexi hollow swivel is in one word awesome. I cannot believe that other brands did not pick this up.

Carved has got a really great solution for that:

If you did a rotation/handlepass, you simply need to pull the Bar down and the 5th line ais untwisted again immediately. No further turning with your hands necessary, simply pull the bar down.
