I also have a 15 & 9 Trix. I easily go upwind with both, especially the 15. Maybe you have too much backline pressure, this would make it harder to go upwind.

Have you tried moving the bridle attachment points?

I have not changed the bridle points, but I have experimented with back and front line lengths. When I have them set to where the kite pulls the best, this happens. As long as the power is on,no problem other than going upwind. If I hit a bad jump and land somewhat down wind,a little under the kite,it will fall.

Does sound like too much backline pressure... all the GKs like to fly with 'loose' backlines, slack so you actually see them sagging in the wind, this allows the kite to really cut upwind and develop huge power through its speed...
If your backlines are as tight as on a traditional C kite you are flying it backstalled, lots of grunt, but no upwind ability... and it will drop like a stone in a lull.

My 2yuans worth ;-)

Under and around 12-13kn wind I use the second knot (that is the midle knot) near the bar for the back line. Whit a small board the upwind is medium but I can ride and jump.

Up this wind I use the third knot (usual knot) from the bar to have a good upwind abilyties near like a Vsonic 14m².

The pressure bar on the 15 trix is very good and confortable.

In default configuration, the kite is very stable... and easy to land after a jump...

for my 12m i had to add extra long pigtails (at least +10cm). i used the last knot on the bar but that wasn´t enough.

I had the same problem on my 12 as well. I undid the first and second knot on the leader line (that gave me an extra 5 cm) and I shortened the depowerline by re-tying it to the CL (I have short arms, so couldn't use the full range of depower anyways).

I also noticed that the 12 has a greater tendency to fall out of the sky than either my 9m Trix or my 11m Sonic.

Trix I 15m² = OK
Trix I 09m² = OK
Vsonic 11m² = OK
Vsonic 14m² = OK
Sonic II 08 & 11 & 14m² = OK

Trix 12m² = for my small experience on one 2 kites I remark that it looks necessary to tune the kite.
I have too undid the first and second knot on the leader line and certainly, with the second kite to put on some pigtails too...

And on my Trix II 09m² I think I have tu tune a little but I am not sure.... because the kite is very great between 25-35kn but around and less 20kn I am not sure beacause I have ride once time in that wind and with a bullshit board... :-?
