Punta Cana is a a seemingly endless stretch of all inclusive resorts on beautiful, very crowded beaches, ie parasailers, jet skies galore and plenty of inlatable water toys for the tots. I seem to remember reading on this forum of someone who tried to kite there and the general consensus seemed to be it was way more hassle than it was worth.

went there last year in August for family holiday - as has already been said, lots of all inclusive hotels, beach very busy, long stretches of swimming areas roped off, parasailers, water taxis, snorkelling trips, hobie cats, fishing trips, beach security and all manner of hazards

only saw one kite, on one day only, guy struggled to launch as beach was only narrow, just missing people and palm trees, however, he went out, but not enough wind, came in well down wind and proceeded to walk up the beach in amongst many people strolling down beach, stepping over kids playing in the sand, waiting for people going in and out of the water and then stood in the water, due to narrow beach, waiting ages to land as people continued to walk beneath the kite lines looking up wondering what it was and what he was doing; not good!

I did a bit of research before I went and found that there was no kiting really and a windsurf school had closed as there was insufficient wind; so in general not a popular kiting destination IMHO

having said that the wind did pick up for several days, while we were there, as hurricane Dean passed by!
