yes and no.... Friday the winds were very light most of the day but came up to around 13-14mph so the race was run. It was about 1/2 mile upwind around a buoy to port, then about 5miles downwind to a buoy to port and to a finish about a 75 yard reach between a buoy and a flag on the beach.
Pro start was first: Jesse Richman (Maui-Cabrinha) was first edging out Damien LeRoy (Florida-Cabrinha) by about 20', with Jeff Kafka (Calif-Cabrinha) third about 2min behind. Jesse's time was about 22min. The Ams started about 7 min later with Tony Bolstad first, Carol Bolstad second (both from WA), with Reed Brady third (OR)
The forecast for Sat was wind 10-15, possibly up to high teens with 3-4' waves; never happened and the wave contest didn't go off...but there was and excellent beach pic-nic; burgers, shrimp, halibut, fillet(meat), veggies, oysters, clams and more. Sunday was even worse, and the wave and freestyle was canceled
For next year, the organizers were thinking of running ONLY a wave contest, and running it similar to the Nelscott Reef and Maverick's Tow contests....put out a two week "get ready" window, and provide a 48 hour notice. Contest to be run either at the Nelscott Reef or the Nelscott shorebreak
