Kite advice...again!

Postby kitecrazy_007 » Tue Jul 15, 2008 7:58 am

Hi Guys,

Looking for some advice again. Just got the SB3 10m and am looking for a larger kite to have as well as the 10. Got offered the SB2 14m but not sure if this is too big and slow. Anything I should know (good or bad) about the SB2. Is a 14M too large (should I stick to 12m), and what other options can people recommend. Weigh 85kg, kite in mostly choppy seas, beginner level.

Thanks,

I would suggest that you go for the 14. The 12 is just too close in size.

SB3's have great range. You made a good choice by getting the 10.

Enjoy!

yes i agree with ricky bobby that you should go with the 14m kite. cause if you went with the 12m it would feel more like the ten meter.(in my opinion)

forget about the 2 ,if you can afford it get the 3 or even 4. The 2 had a few issues with the canopies ripping.Good kite though.

Go for the 14m SB3...one of the design criteria for the SB3s was to have them turn faster than the SB2s; especially in the larger sizes....Cabrinha was successful! Better construction as well

Thanks for the advice. Have not yet flown my 10 as it is in South Africa waiting for me to go there at the end of the month to collect it.
I would love to buy the 14m sb3, however, as you can imagine, after spending all the money on the 10m there is not so much left in the drawer to get a new 14m and there are no second hand ones where I live (Netherlands). I have found a SB2 14M (almost new), for 500 euro. My thinking is that the 14m kite will not be used as my main kite, but rather as a secondary kite to my 10. I will not go to the beach in less than 15 knots, but if I am at the beach and the wind drops to below 15 it is nice to have a backup. Because I will not be using it that much, I thought it should be sufficient to get an older kite just for those few sessions a year.

Thanks for all the advice again - always good to use this knowledge source.

Buy SB3 14 (kiteonly) and use the bar of SB3 10. It will work fine and you save some money.

Hey kite crazy.

Not sure where you kite but if you kite in Cape Town mostly (you mentioned RSA in your previous post), a 14 sqm is going to be useless here.

Go for a wave kite: maybe a 7sqm revolver HD or a second hand 2007/2008 Omega but that's only if you are going to kite here.

buy your 2nd kite in Cape Town: they have plenty of brand new gear and second hand kites at very cheap prices.

if you specifically want a Cabrinha, you can call Cabrinha in cape town on +27 21556 7910. Speak to Simon or Grant !

See you around
