Fatal accident in Brasil, Maceio, state of Alagoas

Postby alsoares » Sun Aug 17, 2008 5:39 am

A friend of mine died today from severe head injury after being hit by a gust in Pajuçara beach, city of Maceio, Brasil. He learnt to kitesurf one and a half year ago, but wasn't on the water frequentlly, and had not much experience observing weather conditions, so he underestimated the rainy day and went to the water with a few other kiters.
Here are some shocking photos, I hope his death was not in vain, and that we all learn from this tragic accident. I'll soon post a detailed description of what happened today.

Guess it went wrong pretty quickly. Would a helmet have helped? Hopefully he went quickly into unconsciousness and didn't suffer a lot. Hoping that he had a good day before he left us. Vaya con Dios. Peace in the aftermath. He's in a better place.

I'm sorry to hear that and my condolences go out to his family.
My opinion is that photos of the deceased in these circumstances should only be public if the family wish it.

The photos are very sobering...

I think they should be shown, but as Ronnie says, only if the immediate family agree. I notice you've taken down the most shocking one, that's probably wise for now.

It's made me remember to buy a new helmet... my current one has rusted at the strap fixings.

My thoughts go out to those involved,

peace.
