Is there a safe and painless way to learn kite loops?

Postby SpaceRacer » Sat Mar 21, 2009 6:51 pm

I am comfortable looping my kite while I am riding on water and snow (board is on the surface). I have spent a couple of sessions trying kite loops off of back rolls. Even these hurt some. Any advice?

They're all about balls. If you don't want to get hurt, don't do them. Its simple - if you don't fully commit, you'll get fucked up.

I agree that kiteloops can be about balls, but really, there not.

It is about timing, and kite control, and of course body position....

If you are able to kiteloop when simply riding...then think about a NICE and EASY way to progress into full on arial kiteloops...one piece of advice..stop spinning. Inertia based rotation is hard to deal with on top of a powerful kiteloop. Also try staying hooked in before un-hooked. As this Pull from the CG (Center of Gravity) will come from the kite and your body instead of the arm...

So I would recommend that you simply do some small jumps off a wave, or small lip and kiteloop while your in the air, BUT initiate the kiteloop BEFORE you are in the air, keeping the power in the kiteloop and its affect on you when you are on the ground or water....slowly, building up your confidense as well as timing.

As this happend more and more, you can slowly build the heigth and power...meaning how hard you "pull the trigger" ie pulling the bar hard or soft...

Sooner then you think youll be high in the sky and horizontal.
Have fun and also...A HUGE ITEM TO NOITICE!!!

What type of wind are you in....try these things out in lighter winds not stronger!

GOOD LUCK!!

Is true that you need a bid pair of balls.

But your can begin trying then with a bit of wind 15 - 16 knots , once you know how to do it and land them , you can improve with strong winds..

Good luck...

Hi everybody!
This is my first time in a chat !
sorry if I'm doing something rong!
and also for my english!
I would like to buy my first bindings "wake tipe " but I'm afraid to hurt knees or ankles!
I have good experience of kite (best manouvres ,blind judge, surface hp,kitellops unhooked )!
It is easy to loose the boots ?
if I need to it is easy to take off the boots !
I use a SLE kite so I'm not afraid to the difficulties to step in the boot !
Using the bindings on a normal wood core kiteboard it is dangerous to broke the board ?
Tanks for the eventually answer's !!

Use a wave kite or a kite that loops tight with less power and do forward kite loops as you are coming down to land from your jump keeping your board heading downwind :thumb:

Some might call the above pussy loops, but it is the easiest way to learn loops.

PS use the stopper to limit your bar throw so you don't sheet out half way through the loop, and get some velcro balls to use if all the above fails

worth mentioning that i know riders that have tried kiteloops without evening looping teh kite whilst still on the water first... - ie no jump - get to know the power spike zones etc first riding around looping teh kite all over teh place... when it comes to kiteloop jump - going straight downwind before you take off kills the sting.

1. down loops in carving transitions
2. Down loops coming out of jumps
3. backwards loops on small jumps, initiate as coming down
4. Backwards loops on bigger jumps, initiate as coming down
5. Backwards loops on small jumps, initiate before top of jump
6. Backwards loops on big jumps, initiate before top of jump.

Aways point board downwind

If you are careful and deliberate, you will only get some bruises. If not- worse.

Unhooked may be safer, but you may dislocate a shoulder instead, I learned hooked in. Pushing 50.

did my first kiteloop with a speed² 15 in 10knots... i was planning on jumping, a simple jump and found it was wayy easier to simply pull the bar all the way on one side because the kite doesn t drift much. then i tried to actually do one, and failed, crashed myself hard.. so the less i think, easiest it is :)
tried with mty 12 synergy but didn t have the timing right, the kite was looping too fast, had to wait to loop it.... wayy easier with big kites :)
