Spring as our official start of kiteboarding season in Northern California, we get our first kiting fatality this year. Condolences to the family, and be safe out there.

Rip tides are a real danger.

I once had to battle for almost two hours when I got dragged out in a series of terrible rip tides.

Swimming parralel to the shore didn't really help. because the rip tides were chaotic.

If you are kiting and the surf dramatically increases, even if the waves are breaking way the hell out
there get out of the water and asses what's going on.

I'm only still hear to tell the story because I wear a life verst/impact vest.

The other day I saw a vest I will be getting that is just perfect for kiting.

It's the O'Niel Revenge USCG Vest. Yup is US Coast Guard approved.

Main big advantage of this vest is that it is soft and elastic. Lets you bend around in it.

From what I could tell it offer great impact resistance.

Second it has a cove and a zipper that goes over the buckles so there is no chance of
lines snaging and it's very "aqua dynamic" (low drag).

I'm really sorry to hear about this drowning. My condolences.

Drowning is very preventable. Sinking should not be one of the ricks we face when kiting.

A impact/lifevest should be considered at all times a main part of your kit.

Just think about landing hard and getting winded and dazzed at the same time.

Be safe
