Questions on pad/strap combinations for surfboards

Postby dr. » Thu Mar 12, 2009 10:16 am

hi everyone :)
Just a few questions regarding pad/straps combos for surfboards

1. Are there many companies making pads & straps combos to put on surfboards?
2. If you got to try a few, which are the best in your opinion?
3. How are the pads normally fixed (presuming glue)?
4. Are the pads easily removed once the surfboard is finished with? just wondering if i could place them on another board without having to buy new ones?

Thanks in advance
Dara :)

Just go strapless. It is much more fun and exciting once you get it dialed in.

Be careful if you use the surface mount inserts you buy form North Shore Inc.. There not a whole lot of error when screwing the footstraps down to the inserts. After 6-8 turns with the screw driver, the screw will go right into the board. Happened to my friends "Al Merrick" and a new "Firewire" I just purchased. I could not understand why they would not use a thin metal base before the put the glue on, that way the screw would not penetrate the board. Unfortunately, I did not find anyone else who sells something comparable. So, I just count really carefully when I do put the staps on because you will not be able to tell by feel if the screw is hitting the board. One last thing... Those Cling-ons were a joke(at least for me). Try riding strapless first. You might save some money and your board. Have fun in the waves. :D

Dara,
Forgot to mention......Before sticking the pads down to the board(assuming all debris is off), give it a light sanding with some medium-grit sand paper.
