Yes, there are many good anchoring solutions out there. However, the wombat is the only one that weighs only 400g and holds up to 520kg in stiff sand. Typical hold range is 350-520kg depending on depth of insertion and soil type. Its the only anchoring system that "improves" the soil...ie it compacts the soil on the wind in...this compression of soil is achieved by the 140mm nylon/fibreglass reinforcing flexing (world engineering first and fully patented). We tie up to 32' boats in winds up to 30-35 knots without loss or failure. We pull 4WD out of bog conditions and they can be
uninstalled and reused over and over again. We hold down trees in 60-80mph winds...the soil fails not the wombat.
There is little holding power in tapered screw systems or small diameter (under 80mm/~3" dia) anchor systems...especially in soft sands. Tapered screws work well in solid/compacyed or very firm soils...but tend to work loose in sand.
The wombat works in all soils except pindan or rock hard soils and concrete.... bet you, you can't put a star picket in some of these.
To be honest, the only thing that kills the wombat selling in the US is the high freight cost in getting it to you. Hopefully the wombat will be available in the US real soon...in bulk.
And we are working on kite connections. We are talking to experienced guys who run kites at Lancelin and Geraldton WA...and gaining the knowledge to build stuff that works...
