Advice needed: where to go Caribe/South America XMas-NYEve

Postby vannibombonato » Sat Oct 24, 2009 8:32 pm

Dears,
after two days of researching im still lost...need help to decide where to go over XMas!!! I've researched basically every post about Caribbean and South America...and still cant decide.

We'll be 3 friends, beginner-intermediate level, luckily with a good budget and travelling from Europe around 27-28 Dec till around Jan10.
We're looking for:
1- Wind...that is, statistically speaking i'd like to have 70%+ of kitable days.
2- Decent nightlife: im not talking about mega clubs or anything, but a place where we can go out a bit at night and have some fun would be really great. Net..i'd like to avoid the truly kite-only camps.

I was looking at Isla Margarita/Coche...but there i'm worried that there's even too much crowd/partying, and would not want to go into a place which is so crowded i can't even launch my kite. Plus, i'm not so sure about the wind in the period.
Then i started considering the Caribbean...but again, could not find a place with a good mix between wind&social life.

Anyone has any suggestions/experience to share??

Thanks a lot,

Vanni

st lucia is pretty sweet this time of year. good winds usually the trade have filled in. some sweet bars that are rocking, not massive clubs. laid back, few bands, odd dj nights etc.
kitespot is close to everything, but you need to rent a car.
this is the north of st lucia. you can find pretty decent well priced accomodation. www.kitesurfingstlucia.com has gear rentals and pics of the spot on the website.
The south of st lucia has good kiting too but not as much to do in the partying department, so i reckon up north best for this kind a trip.

problem is that down south there is not much else to do.
someone looking for some partying and stuff round new years would be much better off staying in the north. rent a car and you can travel to kite down in the south if you want. good spot up here in the north too. www.kitesurfingstlucia.com has info. rentals and lessons too.

If you want wind and you can kite. Check out Aruba!
In Dec/Jan is blowing 15-25 knots.
