Slingshot Celeritas - What size 5'8" or 5'4" ?

Postby gravey » Thu Nov 05, 2009 4:09 pm

I have decided on the Slinghsot Celeritas but I'm unsure about what size to go for. Can anybody give me some tips and advice about what size of board I should go for 5'8" or 5'4".

I am an intermediate rider, jumps, rolls, toeside decent freeriding etc and would like to buy a wave board that would help me in smallish onshore waves and chop.

I weigh about 165 pounds - 76 kilos and not sure whether I need the smaller one or not. I ride Revs in anything between 15 - 30 knots. I am tempted by the 5'4" as i think that may be about right , but I am concerned that if i get this i will regret not having the extra few inches for bigger stuff or better planing on light wind days.

Can any of you guys give me you experience of this board and which size you would recommend.

That 5'4" is insane you will be very happy with it. If you consistantly are going to ride smooth biggers sized waves then you might want to consider the 5'8".

Just get the 5'4", you will be stoked!

I have some nice action GoPRO of the 5'4" in river swell. Not huge swell but you can see the range you can get out of the board. I was on a 6m RPM at the time and it just doesn't even look like a 12 would fly. My measurements are about 165lb / 6'2".

Either way this has been the board of choice for me all summer long and the pop of the lip is great! Lots of pop to keep it to your feet if you ride strapless, concave to smooth out the chop, and nice clean edge at the back of the board to stomp the kite and have control at high speeds.... Tri fin for that snappy release.

You will be stoked on the board for sure!!!! :jump:

Yup, your correct but the basic outline is the same from 09 to 2010. I would recommend the 5'8" if your a heavier rider 175+lb.

If your in swell "logo" high that's jackin pretty good you will feel the board try to pearl if you don't put good back foot pressure to keep the nose up. If your in those types of big swell conditions I would recommend the Ben Wilson Pro for sure because the Pro will have the most rocker. If your typical day is head high and choppy smaller beach break the 5'4" and 5'8" will work very well; So picking the board that will fit you best will be really based on your weight to make sure you get the most usable range out of it.

Cool guys. I have gone for the 5'8". I figure the extra couple will help me as I am new to this style of board, also on light wind days better planing and also bigger conditions. I was worried about the 5'4" being a little small. I think this will be just right.

this is a sick board you will be super stoked with it!
SS surf boards are for sure the best rides on the market, ever since the SRT 5,11 yellow rocket came out i have not found a sweeter ride than the SS surfboard.
Construction is good aswell,
just not sure weather to go BW pro or Verve 6"2 now!

really - the 5.4 is not too small!!!! for me the 5.8 was too big... it slapped around a bit too much. the 5.4 has enough volume - for lightish wind - due to the nice bit fat fish shape.

the 5'4" is not too small, in my opinion and i am about your size -

there is not a whole lot of nose scoop in the board or extra nose - for planing, you aren't missing anything

the added nose would come in handy for dropping down steep waves or maybe punching over a wave but i haven't noticed any issues that a little more rear foot pressure can't solve on the 5'4"
