Hatteras Camping

Postby SteveF » Tue Oct 25, 2011 2:48 pm

Hi all,

I have been to hatteras quite a few times, but always rented a house.

What is the policy of posting up a tent outside of a campground, say on the beach? Will you get hassled by the Police/DENR?

Cruising down tomorrow, thanks in advance.

Camping in the off-season is generally very reasonably priced. Just stay in a campground...

There are quite a few campgrounds down there. Two or three right around KHK and Real. Plus there is the Frisco Woods campground just past Buxton area. Never camped down there, don't recall all their names. Sorry...

I wouldn't camp there because the mosquitoes are brutal.

Mosquitoes are even worse down here this year because of the flooding back in Sept. If you are camping make sure you bring lots of spray. Might be a little better recently since the nights have gotten cooler but still pretty rough. If possible try to camp away from swampy areas and where you can be exposed to some breezes during the night.
