Just out of curiousity - what is the purpose ?

To try something completely different for the fun of spinning around "no hands" ?

Or training wheels for handle passes ?

Or ???

Because the reason why unhooked is fun, is BECAUSE you are unhooked and the freedom of movement - and the reason why handlepasses are fun, is because it is "hard" to do - physically and/or technically.

If you just want a sliding hook (not all the way around) - then I seem to recall much simpler solutions 8)

But really curious now.

Kindly, Peter Frank

Can you imagine what some sand or sea weed would do to that, look closely at the chicken loop hook a good wipe/crash with your kite will snap that flimsy thing right off. If anyone actually bought that thing, i would like them to know i have 2 acres of land on Mars i'm selling dirt cheap just Pm me for details.

Ok Peter, I thought the more option we have the better we could select
our equipment for our style.
I'm afraid to do any more unhooked & wild style after my shoulder injury I had last year.
I lost 5 months of the best time of the year,
but I'm happy after the recovery without surgery and back on the water now.

I thought if I would have a sliding harness it would overcome partially my limitations
and taking off the load from my shoulders what appears to be on the Video.
Maybe I'm wrong here, but that's the reason I was asking mainly.
So that's the reason also I don't fly any kites with a high bar pressure.
I sold all of my recent modern kites and kept only a 12 and 15m Foil Type.
If you know a good inflatable around 14m with a good low end pull,
good upwind and light bar pressure similar atributes to Foil
but faster steering responses obviously, please let me know. :jump:
I couldn't find one yet. :-?

Cheers,

DrLW

I don't know about that gadget, but I just ordered one of these things.....

Dynabar
dynabar.jpg
It's made by the good people at www.jayfactory.com

I have a friend that rides with a line that goes from side to side on his harness and it looks like
it gives him loads of freedom.

This bar looks like it does the same thing, but better.

Can't wait to try the gizmo out.

The design looks nice and simple.

I like the idea that it lets you use your weight more freely when riding toeside.

I also think that it will made jumping over wave toeside much better....but we will see.

Cheers

Fred

I have seen the "hula hoop" ring that you showed in the thread starter. A local guy had one and used it for a little while, but have not seen it for several years. Apparently they are quite expensive. Not sure how it held up to use/abuse, sand, etc.

Aaron Hadlow used one a few years ago in a competition to the protest of other competitors who said it made doing handle passes too easy for Aaron...so he took it off...and still blew everyone away without it.

The Dynabar is a lot different, but suits the purpose of my wave riding and directional board riding perfectly. So far a few others have tried it and seem to like it. Unfortunately we have had very few good wave sessions here this year...but I don't think I'll ride with a normal fixed hook again.

I did a crude drawing over Fred's photo in an attempt to illustrate the "restrictor line" I made for mine using a piece of 2mm Dyneema. I ride goofy foot, so I only really want it to rotate to the right when on toeside.

This makes riding toeside so much more comfortable and efficient!

I am pretty sure Fred is getting the new and improved version to the one shown. Fred, anxious to hear your impressions when you get it and see some photos.

cheers

PS...If anyone wants to demo or see this spreader bar let me know. I am in FL until May 1 and then OBX, and then MI summer/fall...send me an email.

While I kinda like the idea of the Dynabar, the circular metal loop in the video of the first post makes me shudder at the thought of what might happen if the metal loop comes free of its connections with the main harness... "Look Ma, no arms!"

Also, what happens if the hook gets stuck at the back of the metal loop, dragging you toward/down/over the beach/rocks/road and you're unable to reach behind you and release your chicken loop? I realise this sort of thing can happen with a normal harness, but you're much more likely to be able to get out of that situation.

The rotating harness is a little bogus, but the dynabar looks cool. How much does the dynabar cost?
