Q for Rocketfish '08 users regarding riding strapless

Postby _conor » Sat Jan 03, 2009 1:07 pm

Hey all,
I've been getting to grips riding the Rocketfish strapless of late, I gotta say the increased sense of freedom is fantastic.
However, the beach I ride waves at usually has onshore wind. I haven't tried the board strapless in any kid of surf yet (still just getting some confidence without the straps).
I'm wondering if riding the board with just the front strap would give almost the same sense of freedom as riding totally strapless but still having the ability to jump over the broken mushy onshore waves on the way out? I'm thinking I could slip my rear foot under the 'skyhook' at the back when hopping over the mush.
Has anyone tried this? I know the best way to answer this is for me to just go out and try it but there's no wind at the moment and I'm wondering if anyone has any input/experience?

(I'm not at the level of jumping the board strapless, it looks fine when tophat does it but when I'm out there I'm at a loss as to how to pick up the board and simultaneously jump! :o )

Thanks for any replies,
Conor

Got the same board, never rode it strapped. What I did was buy a 'Kling-On' from NSI or whatever and used that on the front, really helps to get over waves and gives more confidence. To be honest I have never felt myself put my back foot in the sky hook except sliding out the tail.

I noticed the board is more a high wind board and fast.

Just go out and do-it.

Cheers
Rich

Thanks for the info Rich, I never heard of those!
Just checking the website now, did you fit the standard or the parallel hole option?

I did not know that there where to options but the ones I got have 2 holes crossways, the only problem I have with them is that it tends to rub up against your small toe after a while, so if you can get a set that mounts further forward the better it will be.

Cheers
Rich
