YEP--Adrenaline !!
& the topic asks: so "WHY" do it ?
There Fun as Hell, and when done properly -- reasonably safe .
The chop at Mohave is usually 2' to 2.5ft high, so I cannot land a jump with
a kite-loop -- straight down wind, with my prosthetics.
So i "Don't" .
I'll through a kite loop from out of a transition turn with the kite as far to the other
side of the window as i can get it. I won't release the loop
until the kite is parallel to the horizon ; This way i know the power will go away
momentarily as it's heading to the other side of the power window.
Santiago will do this out of a 25ft jump and a double
back-roll, and then land like a feather on the face of a 2ft wave & just keep
on jamming !! But i've seen him eat it with Little consequence ,because he thinks
about an out "Before" he goes in. He makes SURE the kite is depowered
before the impact.
I've Never seen him hit the water straight down wind with the kite Powered-Up;
so even in glassy water with no waves the landing will be softer.
I watch Darin practicing his double back-roll with a double kite-loop; sometimes he's
above his kite on the first one, but always manages to land/crash, "Without" a
Big Splash !! He sees his Exit, and is adjusting for the kite's power before hitting
the water, even though it is a down-wind landing.
Probably WHY he's an Olympic Champion from another sport & the Best kiter
in Nevada.
QUIT Busting a Move, if Ya "Can't" see your exit !!!
It's suppose to be a Progression.
