Found it "strange" that, for some companies, like Takoon, which just launched their newest kite Nova3 1-2 months ago as 08' kite. While for Cabrinha's xBow IDS launched weeks ago as 09' kite, it's quite misleading to some buyers !!! Maybe some other companies can soon lauch their 2010 gears as higher marketing gimmick...
posting.php?mode=post&f=1#
I advise to the industry to name that, say for the above example as 08-09 or 08/09, as "year of launching"/"the gear carries to"....
What do u think?

i think its nice to have some spacing of when the kites come out
also this happens every year so it isnt something new.
just the way the industry is
i think of the years more as generations then actual year they came out

I agree completely. It is just marketing some manufacturers use ( especially Cabrinha) wanting to make customers beleive their kite is newer than the competitions. A kite released in 2008 is a 2008 kite whatever you want to call it. Reminds me in a funny way about people trying to cheat about their age...

Same company that wants people to believe their straps are bindings.

Car manufacturers does exactly the same each year.
Oh, and why attack Cabrinha? Many brands are coming with new gear in august-september.

I have the LF straps, they're similar, can be tightened really tight with heel straps but they're still just that...straps.
You can't call it bindings simply because it holds a little better. I don't see companies calling every bow kite a C kite simply because they feel like one, do you?
BTW, not to pick on Cabrinha but I think any company that calls their kite the next year model is idiotic. If its produced and sold in 08, its an 08. There are a lot of companies that do this. Why? What is the point? We're mid way through 08, its not like its November.

I don't get it either, but someone started the trend a few years ago and all others had to follow...and the trend stuck.
I think the gear changes way to quickly, and in my op., if they change the gear within 2 month of selling their "old" product for full price, well that's BS.
sometimes I think some just make a model of kite, even if it sucks ass, just to be able to compete.
Like the new crap, all the hype with the Delta shape. WTF?
Just make a good product and stick with it. Stick with "your" design and stay behind it 100%
Why have 5 different models??
And take an example from UG: 08 boards are available in 08 !!! (not in august of 07)

does it really matter though? We're all aware of it, so there should be no problem. I mean the kites could be dubbed 2151 for all I care...it is a good way to enumerate new models...I would find it strange if they waited with a new kite until Jan 1. 2009 just because they wanted to call it an 09 kite....
I simply do not understand what the big deal is...
I do think it would be funny of a company would come out that an 80-ies kite...dayglo colors and with 80 graphics...
mission man..how about the litewave superlace sandal..the lowest bindings, but you can still kick it off...
anyhoo...

The problem with the scenario, taut, is anyone who hasn't been following the heritage of that particular model doesn't know whether they are getting the latest model or not. It also makes it a nightmare to find out the actual year of the particular model. I.e. if you buy a kite in 2008, and its a 2007 model, is it 1 yr old or 2 yrs? That makes it tough on newbies who think they're getting a 1 year old kite and then find out its actually 2 years old. This is a lot easier to understand with cars for example, because you know that the only chance you're going to get that is when a car is sold in december and they carry the registration for a month later.
If I told you that you were trying the 2008 XYZ model, could you without a doubt tell me you knew whether it was the latest model or not just by the year?
BTW, sandal bindings is a term that has been around for a while. if you take the back off a sandal binding its a strap, not a backless sandal binding. Why cabrinha chose to call their strap a binding is a mystery to everyone except cabrinha.
