Best light wind inflatable kite

Postby noxperpetua » Mon Oct 13, 2008 10:42 am

Hi, I'm an heavy rider (95kg - 200lb), i should replace soon my old contra 2007 17 meters, was told new xbox 16 ids it's great - but I m pretty interessed by bandit dos 16 - anyone tried it?
good upwind?best free style?Matter of my contra was not a good upwind with common kiteboard, with spleen ok. I use my contra with a spleene monster door from 9 knots, so need more power (or wind)to use my other kiteboard...

Well, the Xbow IDS 13m2 is the perfect replacement for my Contra 14m2. I guess this also could be said for the 16m2 VS 17m2.
Cannot say anything about the Bandit. The pull from the 13m2 is equal to the 14m2, high-end maybe 0,5ms less..
But the feel, low latency and the steering is excellent. Recommend trying the 16m2 before you decide!

No more pulleys on the bar for me either...it was okay for two years, but in the end I found the lack of response and the high latency limiting my learning too much.

;-) I bought a swtichblade 3 10m some months ago..and was so so spoilt by it....pression on contra 2 17m is little hard when there is light wind....
the 17 is a slow kite..with pulleys u can sleep before it turns...it's good for the beginners, now need fat action;-) was told about bandit is more freestyle, but don t know about power:-(

For low-wind days I doubt there are many inflatables that can beat a Crossbow IDS..The Moonsoonz most likely got more power, and the Flysurfers more powerful foils. But the Crossbow gives excellent overall performance, including power.
But do not take my word 100%, I got a nice deal on Cabs from the dealer...Got a 9m2 and a 13m2 Crossbow IDS.

2009 Windwing Batwing 15.5 Riding under 8mph with 159 door, riding upwind and small jumps in 10mph. Sweet Spot range 12-25 mph. I'm my opinion your not going to find a better performing light wind inflatable kite. The rider in the light wind at the start of the video sold his 17m Contra for the 15.5 Batwing and has never been happier with the performance of the Batwing.

I'm 230lbs and use an Ozone Sport 15m. I like it, no pullies and a realiable nice performing well made kite. For me it gets going around 10 mph and is comfy to the mid 20's. Jumping performance really starts to work around 13mph.To get the light wind performance is really more about your board than the kite imo.
I'm sponsored by Ozone so I'm trying hard not to pimp and just give info. But good kites worth a try if you have demos available in your area.
Good luck.

hey, how light are you talking? Although I am no fan of light wind riding, I'm liking the cult 15 for light winds. Using it with a foil board or surfboard when it is glassy. It is also a really fun kite when you want to practice something in light winds that you don't want to break your neck over on a smaller kite :-)

I think that super large kites does not always give you a lot more low end (maybe a little) than for one or two meter larger kites, like you see in the comparisons over...what I think happens is that people are using larger boards in light winds, and although I do think the larger kites will give you more power in the same wind or slightly lighter winds, they are also slower. So choose the smallest possible kite for the wind range you are thinking. :-)

If you have a chance to test the kites, do so.
