quick take out/ put in foot straps

Postby olinozanussi » Mon Apr 19, 2010 11:12 am

We have a really good world class point wave / wind spot here.
We used to windsurf there, but now every body kites, the spot is still there waiving at us.
It's not very kite friendly...
The problem is that it's a bit far from shore, there are rocks downwind, and the wind is gusty and offshore in the beach.

now we are more experienced kiters....
we like the waves....
new kites are more gust friendly....

we want to kite the point!!!!!!!!!! :jump:

...next season it's going to be for sure, in preparation I have hand made for myself a quick take out front strap ( pictures later ) ( i only use one strap in the front) for my wave board , and in case of trouble I can pack everything and paddle to the beach safely.

Why don't companies make a real easy to put on and take out strap, I mean without screws, etc....
so that you can paddle over it with no problems.
( I know it may be better for them, cheaper and boards lose value with damaged inserts....)
maybe using a leash plug or something....

see if you can fit some wakeboard binding finger screws to any straps?

I've tried stuff like that....its still a screw...
the insert can get damaged and it's not very practical with cold water ( lack of sensibility in your hands ) and a stress situation....

My home made is better....

but a production design, would be much better,
something really plug and play...
like seat belts on a car, click in - push button

I could picture a "quick-switch" foot strap, made with a strap of heavy duty velcro, which slips under a little bar, which in turn is fastened to a standard insert in the board. The velcro band would fasten to the top of the foot strap.

This might be up your street. Slingshot stole the idea from either Burton snowboard who have it in nearly all of their snowboard range now, or i think forum snowboards may have had it before them.

Anyway this channel could be used/adapted for a quick clip in and slide out sort of design. Guessing you don't want to rely on screws and i guessing it would not be too hard to adapt an insert for channel that could slid in and secured. Well maybe anyway!

exactly !, I though of that, only didn't do something for me like that because I wanted a solution that wouldn't change the board itself ( loose value , etc,,,)
an easy adaptation , without inventing anything new, would be using surfing leash plugs! (...which slips under a little bar....) 4 for each strap maybe.

....yes, i think all boards should come with it, much better IMO, not new, but better, at least for foam boards, ( maybe TTs loose a bit of flex? )...

a cross over would be nice,
Little bar inside something like a u.s box with several position options

now it's ok :cool2: Hey company guys I'm registering a moral patent here!

here is the home-made conversion version.
tested it yesterday and it's 100% ok.
it doesn't hurt when paddling ( went for a surf before the wind picked up )
And it's really quick to put in and out.

another thing, there is a small rounded square of aluminium of the same thickness of the bars under the webbing to allow space for the bars to pass through easily.

it's easier to understand if you look at the pictures in the opposite order.

Check out the Lightwave footstraps, easy assembly, adjusts well, and feels like a boot, also has a toe ledge that is awesome.
