I've been kiteboarding in a lagoon as a begginer. Now as an intermediate I'm heading for the ocean. I kiteboard in Acapulco Mexico and 300 km away in Zihuatanejo there have been numerous shark attacks on swimmers, two of them fatal. How common are shark attacks on kiteboarders?

You've more chance of being hit by an asteroid.
So wear a helmet instead and chill out.

or how about your chances of being gunned down by a mexican drug lord..... probably a lot more chance of that happening....
I like to think Sharks dont like the sound a kitesurf board makes when it hits the water.... in Capetown there are loads of great whites about - and no kiter has been attacked...
so i think you are pretty safe, riding and doing jumps....
then again if you lose your board.... then you are dangling in the water like a tasty piece of bait like the ones the shark cage diving boats hangover the side .... easy pickings.
dont lose your board......

if u r too paranoid or a fraid, just install a shark shield on your board or on u and u ll be safe. usually for surfers and divers but well, if u lose your board and hang around sharks, u might want a shark shield lol or try to bodydrag faster than the shark can swim =)

It's more dangerous to be a canoeist during the mating season.

I don't think there has been a shark attack on a kitesurfer, at least I know of no reports, correct me if I'm wrong.

The only sharks i've seen at our local spot are the boys on a night out in Lynn....
I've only seen them attack hippos and manatees though...

Back in the 90's a mako attacked a guys board in a race. Can't remember the exact place, but I think it was South Africa.
