North Rebel 7m 2007: huge bar pressure at bottom end

Postby sarc » Sat Sep 06, 2008 4:40 am

I ride the 7m in 17-20 knots on a surfboard (88Kg rider) and I go just fine, but with the depower strap full out the bar pressure is about twice compared to riding normally powered on the 7m (25-30 Kn). Could it be that I set the 5th line too long? Any suggestions? Or is it just a characteristic of the kite?

check the nose line length, most North 2007 rebels noselines where a bit short, causing to much tension above the bridle on the 5th. You end up fighting against the 5th line when sheeting in causing bar pressure. 50mm can make a hugh differance

Here is the tuning tips for Rebel 07 7m2. Did this also on my 9 and 12 -07
Just put a knot on the red and black main lines on the kite.

Do not change the 5th line!
Check if you got the correct lenght of the 5th line connector on the kite.
On Rebel 2007 - 7m2 (100 x 75 cm)

Thaks! Yes I tuned my kite to southcentral kiteboarders spec 1st time out, so I put the knots on the front leaders. I'll check the 5th length...

As per the suggestions I have removed the 5th line lengthening, and it helped reduce the bar pressure a lot. HOWEVER South Central Kiteboarder is right, the kite DOES collapse when going fast fully depowered across the window. I remedied by pumping the leading edge harder BUT... blew open the LE valve when I crashed during a manoever (well, better than bursting the bladder...). So I think right balance of 5th line length and LE pressure is key

How much length did you take off your 5th line on your 2008 bar? And is this the same length to take off on a 10m kite?

The lengthening I reduced was about 2.5cm or 1 inch - I followed the SC Kiteboarder suggestion and put a knot on the front pigtails, so I just undid the knots. No idea if the same applies to a 10m...

Hi all,

I have the same issue as Sarc had. I tought it was a characteristic of the kite (Rebels 7 + 9, 2007), but it seems not. I 've been going through the SC Kiteboarder tips, but not sure if I understand well. Can you confirm the following:

For the 7m:
1. Put extra knot on front pigtails against existing knot.
2. Keep 5th line length as original
3. Move steering lines to 3rd knot (towards the bar) on leader extension lines.

For the 9m:
1. same
2. same
3. Move steering lines to new knot halfway between 1st and 2nd knot (towards the bar) on leader extension lines.

Thanks!
