KTA News:
KTA First Round Xiamen - China
The first stop and launch event for the KTA takes place in Xiamen China, towards the end of October. Xiamen is fast developing as one of China’s key kiteboarding locations, with a strong local kiteboarding scene emerging. The location has large wide sandy beaches, with very few fixed obstacles or hidden nasties under the water.
The gentle sloping beaches give a flat-ish water to ride, without much in the way of shore break when the winds get stronger, so its going to be great for the freestyle riders, with a good open sea area for the racing also, which will have riders racing between the island of Xiamen and those of Taiwan, quite a setting
The competition beach area sits between the airport and Xiamen, so not too far from anything. It is also a developing area for international tourism and leisure, with a large new marina complex, new hotels, guesthouses, restaurants and other facilities to close by.
The winds during October/November in Xiamen come from the northeast monsoon. Wind speed averaging around 20kts for October, cross onshore for the competition beach locations, with temperatures ranging fro 20 – 28 degrees Celsius.
The KTA’s China tour stop is being supported by our local organiser the China Kiteboarding Centre, one of China’s only kite schools at present. Everything has then been made possible in Xiamen by our Headline local sponsor FNCN, which is a concept outdoor sportswear company with its headquarters based in Xiamen.
