The KB4K organizers are proud to announce the second annual Kiteboarding 4 Kids Event scheduled for February 12th through 14th, 2010, which will be hosted by Laurel Eastman Kiteboarding School on the sun-drenched beaches of Cabarete, Dominican Republic, a Caribbean kiteboarding capital.

Inspired by a charity event Kiteboarding 4 Cancer in Hood River in 2008, top fundraiser Kee Park set off the idea of creating a fundraising event for the children on the North Coast of the Dominican Republic and joined forces with Cabarete kiteboarder Laurel Eastman and organizer Eva Knof.

The 2009 event attracted an international fleet of youth, men, and women from Canada, the US, and Europe as they challenged the local experts for numerous titles and amazing prizes. Bright sunshine, blue skies, and strong winds provided for excellent competitive kiting conditions and drew participation of more than 1000 spectators, families, and casual visitors.

Among the highlights of the 2010 event are the spectacular “Big Air – Best Trick” Competition and the speed trials. Prizes will be awarded in Men, Women, and Junior (14 and under) categories. A significant addition this year will be the spectator-friendly Paddle Board Race, which will also allow non-kiters to participate in this fun event.

Registration is now open and the $50 entrance fee also includes a Stonefish T-shirt and evening meals, making this an excellent value to the riders. So whether you are a local expert, a successful veteran, or a keen novice rider, we encourage you to register at www.kb4k.org.

In addition to the competitive kiteboarding, the event is about fun evening social gatherings and great meals put on by local restaurants in the ambiance of a moon-lit Cabarete night life.

The event has affectionately been referenced to as ‘the regatta that gives back’ - a title due in part to its efforts in 2009 to support the impoverished children on the North Coast of the island by giving all of its proceedings (over $12,000 US) to six local Children’s Charities.

The organizers wish to thank their generous 2009 sponsors, and are now looking for additional sponsors for the 2010 event. If you are a sponsor wishing to contribute a prize or to make a cash donation, please visit www.kb4k.org for further information.

This important kiteboarding event is quickly becoming an established presence as it plays its part in the sport and social scene of the local community, thanks in part to an excellent management team who are passionate about the sport and the local community, and by virtue of its dependable trade winds.

We hope to see you all here in February 2010!

I love the last picture. It is a classic...probably not showing an IKO/PASA approved teaching technique, but very representative of the way older brothers have been teaching younger brothers how to do stuff, since time immemorial.

"Remember, if something happens, tell Mom you got hit by a car..you were not at the beach....or you won't get to play with us older kids, again!"
