I am referring to the valve that stops the air rushing out as you put the stopper on after pumping.

I am assuming it is simply a little plece of stiff rubber inside that prevents the reverse flow.

Hey which kite are you talking about?
Which valve? The main inflation valve?

If it is very cold and hard to stop the airflow by pinching the valve, try to fast at just putting your thumb on the hole. If you are fast, barely any air will escape.

The newer kites have a ball int he inflation valve.

Either way I do not think adding anything in the valves is a good solution.

Flexifoil sell one way valves for about £0.99p so you could cut the old one off and glue one in its place but its really easy to do what Tautologies says above and just put your finger on the end of the valve!
