IKA News:

2012 Kiteboarding World Titles and World Rankings

2012 will see a slight change in the World Championship Titles and associated world rankings to reflect the development of the disciplines in 2011.

The focus will be on four major disciplines – Freestyle, Course Racing, Slalom and Wave. These disciplines have world and continental championships as well as full world ranking systems. Any other disciplines – like speed, big air etc, may hold world and continental championships, but due to the low number of events will not have full world rankings in place.

The true champions in any disciplines are the world champions, while the world ranking gives an up-to-date overview about the performance of each rider in the past 12 months and may be used for seeding and qualification purposes.

FREESTYLE
The freestyle world champion will be solely crowned through the PKRA world tour, regardless of the number of events the PKRA may hold and count for their ranking. Whoever comes out on top of the PKRA rankings at the end of the year will be the undisputed freestyle world champion.
If events have limited entry to the main event, trials will be held during the competition to allocate open slots.
For the freestyle world ranking, every riders seven best events within the past 12 months, wherever they may be achieved (PKRA events, continental tours, national events), are used.

COURSE RACING
The course racing world champion will be decided during an one-off championship event, to be held in Rio de Janeiro (BRA) in October 2012 (to be confirmed). The winner of this one event will be the 2012 world champion.
For the course racing world ranking, every riders five best events within the past 12 months, wherever they may be achieved (PKRA events, continental championships and tours, special events, national events), are used.

SLALOM
The slalom world champion will be decided during an one-off championship event, to be held in Cagliari (ITA) in July 2012 (to be confirmed). The winner of this one event will be the 2012 world champion.
If events have limited entry, the world ranking and nominations from the national kite associations will be used to determine entry slots.
For the slalom world ranking, every riders three best events within the past 12 months, wherever they may be achieved (PKRA events, continental championships and tours, special events, national events), are used.

WAVE RIDING
The wave world champion will be solely crowned through the KSP world tour, regardless of the number of events the KSP may hold and count for their ranking. Whoever comes out on top of the KSP rankings at the end of the year will be the undisputed wave world champion.
If events have limited entry, slots will be allocated through a separate qualification and selection system which will be published on the IKA website.
For the wave world ranking, every riders three best events within the past 12 months, wherever they may be achieved (KSP events, PKRA events, continental events, special events, national events), are used.
