There is a saying "it's good to be home"..... Well In a lot of ways its not!!! Yes, I missed the family, but the riding in the Outer Banks is simply unreal. If you haven't yet been there, make it your next trip. Here is how mine went down.
Ive been teaching on epic kites since their debut, and it's the best tool for the job. It's consistent, reliable, safe, and to the experienced rider, it's fast, punchy and exciting. Anyway, I decided thatafter the crap winter here, an obx trip was needed. Ivenever met Dimitri before, but he was kind enough to help out with my trip, from a answering questions ahead to setting us up with a sweet pad, to lending us any gear we needed or could ever want.
Day one. I land and drive to Nags Head for a quick session before checking out the Epic office and passing out after a simple dinner. It had been a long day.
Day two and three were spent with Dimitri at the Kitty Hawk resort in waves. Hats off to those guys as they've got a pretty sweet site. We rode all sorts of kite sizes and got to see Dimitri and Cameron do some riding in person. If you think he plus big airs in the pictures, you have to see the real deal! But most impressive was the reaction of the people testing the kites. For those that were staying t the resort, there was no need to bring any kites, just book your trip around the demo days and ride all the stuff you can, all the time. But I was able to witnessfirsthandthe reaction of people and excitement is an understatement. These guys were freakin pumped over the vibe of the gear. There were plenty of session stories being told and how the kites got people jived. I heard, " I just pulled the biggest jump ever on this thing" to 'I can't believe how much power and control this kite has" and my fav...."I'll buy em all.... Right now. Where do I sign?"
This was really the best kite trip ever. Dimitri played a big part in showing us around and making sure we were all having fun. For anyone going to the obx, you have to stop at Tortuga Lie, an awesome local eatery, crabby dicks for the t shirts and kitty hawk kites for a great spot and service.
I sit here, in the chilly north, wishing for that session at jockey's ridge back! Memories to last a lifetime for sure.
