King of Kite w/ Ruben Lenten 2015 Cyprus

Summer in Cyprus is full of events and parties but there is one event that stands out every year. It
combines sun, fun and music with adrenalin, excitement and crazy extreme sports. It is the King of
Kite – the Cyprus kitesurfing championships held at Kahuna Surfhouse, Softades Beach Kiti on the 5
th of July.

Kitesurfing is the fastest growing watersport in the world as it combines all the thrills of windsurfing,
surfing and wakeboarding. It is a sport that is gaining huge popularity on the island and our aim is to
put Cyprus on the kitesurfing hotspot map – it is a hidden gem that is now getting recognition
worldwide due to events like the King of Kite. Not only is it an amazing sport to be involved in, it is
also fantastic to watch – it is like gymnastics in the air, huge jumps, crazy speed and insane action. Not to mention the beautiful colours of the kites in the beautiful Mediterranean Sea.

The first King of Kite was organised in 2013 and due to its popularity, the King of Kite is now an
annual event. This year Ruben Lenten will come to our shores to host and judge the competitions. He is a kitesurfing legend, an innovator to the sport and sponsored by Red Bull he organises his own events around the world. His signature trick is the Mega loop, whereby he uses the kite to produce the most power possible to catapult him through the air at huge heights and distances.
Ruben Lenten will be at Kahuna surfhouse all day; he will treat the spectators to a demo of tricks in
the water, he will host the 6km Slalom race and then judge the Free Air competition to crown the
champion King of Kite 2015. Last year there were 60 participants in the Slalom and 20 in the Free Air.

This year we expect even more action and more participants with kitesurfers from Europe joining us to take part!
With the support of Cyprus Tourist Organisation, Keo Light, HotForex, Gshock and Mixfm this year is
going to be a huge event:

The King of Kite is a unique day out for all sports enthusiasts, people of all ages and families. DJs on rotation keep the atmosphere pumping, as well as food and drink and stalls selling and promoting our local beach/surf culture. Join us then!
