yes, you need to break it!
Not sure about the elastic...try it if it works...but needs to be strong since quiet some force will be on it. But not sure if that bit of elastic will make a difference...if a gust hits you can really quickly get of it, just pull down the bar strongly. Test it and you will see.

I really love my Flexifoil Firestorm 15 m it has so much hang time, i just took off the old bar and set it up with my 5 lines Torch naish bar. Old kite perfect for old school, the only problem is that is kind of hard to pump it all, saludos amigo.

Hold the board on the strap and take it off, that will work fine.
And make some pictures!
