I just tried one of the lightest production boards on the market...but it is not perfect for boardoffs...specially if you do spins with it, or the kick flip, then the wind affects the rotation, making it harder to spin.

Same issue with ultra-light surfboard when doing strapless ollies, grabs, jumps... In this case "weight+inertia" is your friend , at least for us ordinary people

@Toby
Toby i have a 133 board and just changed it to same board 135, ive practiced a few times the tail-grab boardoff in the beach, and also without success some times in the water and its tricky to rotate the board a bit to bring it to your feet. I tried on the beach a 128 shapes from one of my friends and it was like a toy...do you think its possible i can do a boardoff with my current boards (i guess so its my skills limiting me)

I tested also longer boards and could do all my tricks on it. It is no problem. I guess once you are very secure with your tricks, it works with any board.
Important are big straps for easy out and in.
With that trick you have two options on how to get back into the straps. I do it in one movement, like throwing the board onto my feet, and due to high straps it works. But it is hit or miss, no second chance! Or you take first one foot, then the second. The first is harder, the second is then like a one foot.
