The trim threshold

Yesterday it was blowing about 25, maybe gusting a bit over. I was on my 11m Cab Velocity and I weight 160 lb (about 72 Kilo). I was pretty overpowered so I trimmed the kite a decent amount. However, whenever I depower I've noticed that the kite loops really slow and performs very sluggish. In fact, on some occasions I could not even get the kite to loop around, and I was pulling really hard. I also experienced this back when i had a switchblade 14m. In my mind, it seems like there is a trim threshold, a point at which applying any more trim will dramatically impact the tricks you want to do because the kite simply performs too sluggish.
All that being said, my questions are:
Has anyone else found it difficult to loop big kites when they are really de-powered ? More specifically, at point do you decide to go with a smaller kite simply because you have it trimmed too much ?
