Big kites can jump Part 2

Postby Toby » Wed May 28, 2014 8:13 pm

this topic is about big kites and their jumping ability.

nothing else!

Can anyone comment on the performance of the Edges from beginning til now?
Since North made their Dyno more for racing, I wonder what happened to the Edges?

And something I heard from the North designer: the Juice will perform great in lighter wind.
Since it has 3 struts only, it will not perform as good if the wind is stronger.

Did anyone ever compare the Chrono 18 to Speed4 19?

Let's talk big kites! :thumb:

Toby.... Who wants to talk about big kites???? Who cares about this????
Just messing with you.

As you know I have the 19m Edge and at 80k I can hold the 19m in 20kns. Keep in mind this is with little or no de-power. I owe you a video. I had the old go pro out the other day to replace the lens (big scratch). I will get it fixed and make a quick video for you (I really hate making them) so this will cost you beer and more then one.

There have been many that say the edge takes more work or is harder to jump with. I don't see it, I'm aggressive, build speed, load, kick/pop like hell and the edge will do its job that's for sure.

The glide is also that's for sure.

The kite is light (you need to take care it will not take as much abuse). There is little protection. I have added dracon in specific places to stop wear.

The kite also loops well for the slides, Jesus walks etc.

That last picture you showed the Edge can do that picture every session with ease. For a big kite I was surprised how well they jump. The 19m jumps higher then my 16m Dyno in compatible winds.

I didn't really like the 16m Dyno. I wish I would have bought the 18m.

The upwind is funny it really is. I have the north bar set up so that it allows me to exceed the normal angle of attack giving me more power in lower winds. (you can do this no issue because the kite sits so high in the window)

I would love to test the 18m Dyno & 19m Edge back to back in 20kns

You seen the guy from Oz kind of did.... He seems to think the Edge was better
cheers

Edge 19 With 32m lines, racebar and shortened the frontlines 10 cm, and a SS glide with 6.25cm fins I can easy manage up to 25 knots in the gusts, I believe I can survive up to 30 knots with this kite. Hangtime is just fantastick and it lifts way better and turns faster with lighter steeering impulses than on my 2011 Crossbow 16 on 25m lines. When downlooping the kite it pulls steady even and well, not like my Core Xr3 15 that pulls like nothing when looping it, This is by far the best lightwind kite I ever used and is for sure my favorite kite. Guttorm 202cm 110kg

Toby, it seems from earlier posts that you have tried most if not all the new versions of Dynos available. Why do you like the 2011 Dyno better than the newer (2012-2014) Dynos for airstyle? turning speed? depower range? anything else? Thanks.

Didn't try all.
Was happy with my 2011 and had/have several pieces of it.
The kite does all I need.
The other models I tried dint has that lift or hangtime, and turned faster.

If you have that level, you will understand that a faster turning kite will be the difference of landing or crashing a trick.

Most people want it fast....but once they progress they will feel why it is a disadvantage!

Maybe someone else tested all Dynos back and forth and knows more, since I didn't try the 2014 yet.
