Don't throw the board behind when you are going to crash!
Just sidewards!
The wind will blow it below you and you can crash on it when thrown behind you!

When you have flat water between the waves slides etc are no problem.
I do Jesus Walks in choppy water, works. Even some darkslides.

Just try and see what is possible. Have fun!

Toby,

Can you give us an idea of the kites and sizes that you use for various wind speeds. We know that you like to go big, but how big?

What is your weight?

Thx,

Ed

well, I use 95% an 18 sqm kite.

Winds from 12-25 knots, warm air.

I have a 16 sqm kite for winds from 20-30 (warm air).
And a 13 sqm kite for winds from 25+ (warm air)

BUT, I can choose more or less my conditions...I like 15-25 knots...if 25+ I don't want to go out.

This season in Brazil I rode 95% 18...few times 16 and 13. I will travel the Caribbean now and skip the small kites...just take two 18s with me...if the wind is too strong I go work or just watch.
Going for a big air comp in Cayman Islands...let's see if I have a chance against the small kites ;-)

I only progress with my 18s...and don't get injured with them. The smaller the kite and the stronger the wind the risk of injuries are getting much higher...and there will not be any progression. My experience. But with now 720 tricks on video I have a big argument ;-)

Cheers!

You sure do ride big. How much do you weigh?

That's a tiny board for a big guy. Does the small board help with keeping edge in with so much power?

yes, the more volume/size the harder it will be to edge hard.
Plus the bigger the board the less you can move it around for spins, flips, passes etc

Toby, what would you suggest as min. size board for a 58kg rider, 168cm in height?

I've seen an Indo. champion rider with 90cm board but he's also <160cm tall, well muscled guy.

I think the rider height plays in here as well.

Since it is not weight and I have no experience with it, I cannot suggest anything.
You have to try different sizes and models to find something for you.

Maybe you have demo events in your area?

Just to add to what Toby is saying

I'm 80k and use 16m-19m 85% of the time. I would use the 19m all of the time if I could. Tobys getting fat at 90kg +

It's a combo you need.

First:
You need a good seat harness this is key. When things get really pumping the seat harness allows you to maintain a lower center of gravity. The waist harness when really powered with a big kite will get pulled up and raise your center of gravity thus you just get pulled of the board by the power. The seat will stay lower allowing you to really lay back and use your full weight potential to hold the power until needed.

Small Board (I have the same as Toby (FS 128).
This board does to things, first it small and great to throw around. Its also not the lightest board for it size. This is great as the board does not get blown away by the wind as you do your tricks. Second the small board really helps to hold the power of the kite (it's carves really hard if and when needed)
It's really the perfect board for Air style (I have tried a ton and nothing comes close)

Big Kite.....
Simple, Jump high, Max hang time and Slow.
I have a 19m on a 52 bar instead of a 55 just to slow it down even more.

Get a Micro loop.... Gods gift to Air Style

cheers
