How to do a Boardoff - Ride with Blake - Vlog 14

The board off is one of those fun old school tricks that you don't see too many people doing anymore. I really love this trick because it's a gateway progression into all kinds of fun classic tricks. Tricks like the christ air or the Jesus walk aka walking on water. You can get as creative as you like with this one.

I've broken this down into five progressions

Step one
Practice grabs. Go crazy, just do as many grabs as you can imagine. Nose grabs, tail grabs, mute grabs, a roast beef! Get really comfortable grabbing that board everywhere.

Step two
Learn how to do one footers. When you jump, go for a grab and start slipping your back foot out. The first attempts you don't even have to get your foot all the way off. Progressively work your way to a solid one footer.

Step three
Timing with the board off. You want to grab your board on your way up. By the time you hit the apex you want your board to be all the way off. As soon as you feel yourself coming down get that board back on your feet. Just like step two start small. Just stay compact and slip that board off and on your feet. Over time you can start going bigger and stretching out more for style.

Step four
Stay compact. Imaging trying to tie your shoes with straight legs...Not so easy right? Well you need to get your knees into your chest while taking the board off and putting it back on.

Step five
The landing is critical. The thing about this trick is you don't want to land at an angle and your really don't want to land with only one foot on the board. Make sure you touch down flat riding downwind. If one foot is not fully secure thats fine, just keep your shoulders over your knees, point the board downwind and stomp it!

Practice at home taking the board off with your harness on while sitting down. Better yet tie a strong rope to a strong tree limb and hook your harness to it and practice your board off.
