Some questions :)

Postby kjorn » Fri Apr 20, 2018 12:17 am

I never unhook. Currently I ride 12m Vegas, 10m Epic Screamer, 8m Torch, 7m Bandit.

I'm looking to boost bigger. I ride in the UK, gusty winds, big waves, lots of chop, big tides.

I'm looking for a new 9m kite, I'm thinking Bandit (because I like my 7m) or Dice (because it is similar to my 12m). Which of these kites boosts better? I'd like a Rebel or Edge, but they are too expensive.

Also, looking to maximise my Woo score, how do I get higher? I can do 10m - 11m on a good day. My biggest boost is 14m. I just don't seem to be able to get those mega boosts. For example, my brother on a Screamer can do 12m when I'm stuck at 10m... I can't figure out what he is doing different. Are there some things I can try? Different techniques? I'm not even sure what question to ask... when you are getting over 12m in height, what are you focusing on? Pop? Board speed? Edge? Which is most important in your mind?

I guess maybe ranking the elements in order in which you think are most important to get that last 10% of height? When I'm hitting 10m and over this is what I'm really concentrating on:

clean ramp
board speed
edging
sheeting
kitespeed
pop
line tension

does that make sense? I'm looking for a good ramp, I want to hit it fast but with control. I try to edge, send the kite, sheet out and pop all at the same time, then after popping I redirect the kite and sheet in.

Obviously I'm doing something slightly different to my friends who are boosting slightly higher. But because we're all pretty similar, what the differences are in technique must be subtle.... I'm not sure on what to concentrate next time I'm out...

Thanks for reading :)

Maybe here are the answers to your questions? [I am not affiliated to video creator, just mentioning it exists..] Episode 1 had a lot of board technique..

Given the same list, I'd put them in this order - but, I'm not expert, so please don't grill me!

line tension
edging
kitespeed
sheeting
board speed
clean ramp
pop

Lol - you're list and my list are almost reversed! Although the conditions I kite in sound different to yours, if there was decent waves I'd maybe rank them higher, and possibly board speed.

Looks like a good debate!
