Kite reviews for freeride/freestyle/newschool

Postby pwnd550 » Sat Nov 12, 2011 6:33 am

Hi,
I'm looking to buy a 12-13m kite. My main riding styles are freeride and basic freestyle, but I would like to start newschool/wakestyle next time I kitesurf. My current choices are:
- Naish Torch 2012
- Hadlow Pro 2011 / ID 2012
- Naish Park 2012
- North Vegas 2012
- RRD Obsession MKIII / Pro

The Hadlow Pro seems pretty nice, but I'm not convinced about it's freeride, upwind and oldschool capabilities. I currently have a 2010 RRD Obsession 10.5m (my only kite). I would like to know what the pros/cons of the bars are if possible.

Also, although it might be a small detail, but how are the bags for each kite I listed? If you have a picture of your bag I would appreciate it :) (I could not find picture of the Hadlow Pro, Torch, Park, Vegas, and Obsession online).
Thanks!

Re: free ride kite: PARK!!!
The Toech is better for unhooked, but for overall riding my personal preference is the Park

Funny you should ask about the bag. I've actually received compliments on the bag when I took it as a carry on on a plane.
I did a write up a while ago: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2371591

Actually after having ridden the kite, more I like it even more now.
The new Park bag is the one to the right.

Not any of my favorites, but Torch or Vegas, forget the others... ;)

yeah that's what I thought haha I really like the Torch, and the Vegas is my 2nd favorite, but who knows the hadlow might be really good!

I fly 2009 Torches and love 'em - if you're happy with 5th line go Vegas, I'd wait to see what the 2012 Torch is like as the 2011 wasn't their best from what I've heard.

Seriously check out the RPM - kite kicks ass by all accounts!!

If I were lucky enough to be able to buy new kites I'd be looking at Vegas, RPM and new Best GP.
