Bandit dos - which size should i take?

Postby omrib40 » Fri Jun 05, 2009 7:08 am

hi i am 15 years old kitesurfing allmost 1 year... i am weight 55Kg i am free style surfer doing some tranisions back front , unhook railey and the kite i have now is
Best waroo 2007 9m , well i want to buy a new kite i will take the Bandit dos
but i am not sure which size i need?
in my country there winds between 14-30 knots sometimes 35 but once in a year and i am not looking to surf in those XD and the 27-30 knots is really rarely the most is 20.
so i am looking for a kite that i can cover allmost those wind range ,
i tought to take a Bandit Dos 10meters becouse i can get this kite cheap from someone i know ,
but some said to me it will be too strong for me and i could barely surf with it in 24 Knots becouse i will be in over power , with my waroo 9m in 25 knots i am in over power.. and just pull the depower and all is good , but the dos is delta kite so ...
i am wondering how is the depower in the bandit dos and if not to take 10m dos which size?
and in how many knots i will be able to ride with the 10m and reduced depower.
i dont have money to buy 2 kites... and to buy new dos is expensive too in my country zzzz.. :|
i will grow up more this year so my weight will be more XD but not so much more
in F-onekites site i saw that 10m dos is between 12>30 knots but im not see the weights of the rider...

thanks.

if you are happy with the wind range of your waroo 9m then look to the 8m Bandit dos.

I am 95kg and with a 130 x 39 board start having real fun from 16-17kts but upwind is about 14-15kts.
topend using 2nd knot on centre line is 34kts for me, but the 7m Bandit dos is great for me from 25kts up.

so comparing your weight then the 8m would be worth a try.

for your weight the 10m in 20kts would be a lot of kite.

if most of the time it is 20knt then i think the 8m if it's a bit more than 20 then one size smaller.

well thanks alot , some more comments will be great and
i am not 100% happy from my wind range in the kite becouse in 16 kts it is still hard for me to surf... so maybe 9 dos will be awesome... the kahoona and the dos are same not?
i rode on 9.5 kahoona nice kite... but idk for free style i didnt like his bar but lets talk about the dos :D
more comments please.

Dude have you looked at any c kites? There are lots that would suit you but you should check out the Vegas and Torch 2009 in the 9 or 10m. They have good depower and tons of pull and for freestyle these deltas/bows/sle's/hybrids just don't cut it compared to a good C.

I am 75kg and with a 128 lunacy board and a 9m Dos i start going upwind at about 15-16 knt and having fun at 18+ knt.
so windrange for me with a 9m Dos is 16-35 knt.
you should go for the 8m.

BTW - Dos and Kahoona are totaly different.
the Kahoona is more for beginners (it even says so on the Best site).

I haven't ridden the Kahoona but I would not say it's a beginners kite, Miguel Willis' video http://www.bestkiteboarding.com/Videos; ... 8Ta38Obxj0 shows it works just fine for unhooked

I am 95kg so not exactely your weight range
But I got the chance to try for one session a 14m Bandit.
I did not have a wind meter at this time but as a guess it was arround 14 knots.
I would say that I was really impressed by the kite.
Very fast turning, there was some little waves and the kite stays parked in the sky even when it was "depower" as I was surfing.
At some point I wanted to buy one but two things are stopping me:
1) My current contra 14 Cab it still OK
2) You can not put the camrig kit (to shot films from the kite) on the Bandit.

Otherwise this is a great kite.
