Nice picts! :thumb:
It must be said, so I will,
You can hurt yourself really bad with incorrect KBHF jump landings. :(
So for those of you wanting to do this please be informed, and also know that you will be stressing the hell out of your t bar and all components when taking off and landing.
Go for it, have fun, be safe, try to not break your legs or sprain your ankels or hyperextend your knees!
There is absolutly no compairison to jumping with either a TT or directional when it comes to landings, period!
The landing is simply not forgiving for anyone without much jumping time.
I could recount some historys I have seen and done but no need, just think about it.
On the other hand for those with the skill, replacement KBHF cash, medical insurance, it is certainly cool to see!

Please understand I post this so a newbie foil flyer who quickly gets to a level that he thinks is good enough to jump does not end up hurt!

I would think that one would need years of complicated jumps on both TT and dir to attempt this safley!
If you feel that you can control your landings with a nice parachute kite action and trust the wind and know that you risk your feet stuck in the straps.............
By the way xcelent to see c`s BS is now banned here, Thanx TOBY!
R H, B safe so you can play some more! :thumb:

Assuming "perfect" kite aerodynamics (infinite L/D), the highest a kiteboarder could theoretically jump is approximately v^2/19.6m/s^2, where v is the kiteboarder's apparent wind speed at the instant he or she initiates the jump. This, due to conservation of energy, can never be actually achieved because kites don't have perfect aerodynamics. Better kites and technique can get progressively closer though.

In specific conditions, a foil board can generally jump higher than less efficient boards because it can achieve higher apparent wind speed prior to the jump.

For example, at 10m/s (~20kts) apparent wind, the highest possible jump is (considerably) less than 5.1m, at 15m/s (~30kts) it's less than 11.5m, and at 20m/s (~40kts) it's less than 20.4m.

Anticipating questions, here's a link to a post and discussion thread I posted in 2007 about maximum jump height: http://kiteboardbc.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=175

obviously there is no limit to how high you can jump on a foil it depends as said before on v squared where v is speed relative to the wind, here's a picture of johnny heineken doing a jump at the san ran yatch club looks to be about 6 or 7 meters maybe a bit less here somewhere around 20 foot jump on a foil.

I seem to remember a photo of Johnny doing about a line length jump on a foil somewhere so about 20 meters or 60 feet. It just depends how much wind there is for how high you can jump on a foil.

I wouldn't be surprised about the dickenson jump of 60 feet either by the way there's no reason you can't jump high on a foil the problem is landing it.

Foils are damned expensive so unless you have a sponsor paying for your foils you are probably better off leaving the high jumps to those who are well heeled.
