Cool twist on a design here :



Now look and see how STABLE the MOTH sailboat goes across the water :



I think that all the ways to integrate a Hydrofoil into our sport of (stand-up) kite-boarding ...
"they haven't ALL bin thought of Yet !!!

Anyone care to take a Guess, (where & what) i'm going with this is ?
Or will everyone just succumb to that , ((Functional fixedness)) thing ?

I have a Cool twist for a design on a hydrofoil that i already started working on ;
won't tell Ya what it is, in the hopes that someone Else will also try something
DIFFERENT than all the copy-cat versions that are Now available. :(

I am NOT fishing for designs ; think i already Got a Good one. I do Want you guys
to start thinking of a Better Way, because there ARE a Bunch of them !!!

Looks like raceboards were faster here than the Moth,
and they were already talking about the potential of foils:

The fastest wind powered craft so far is the Sailrocket, more than 60 knots and it uses J foil.

sailrocket uses a foil to hold it down, not lift it out of water.
it is a supercavitating foil I think.
Pretty different from kiting foils I believe.... :blabla:

Never said anything about Fast ; but I'm Never gonna get FAST till i consistently
have Stable. The short coupling on current weight-shift hydrofoils, will Never
get ME across a race course with some decent chop ; my prosthetic(s) won't allow it.

In a race, your functional legs will keep You out front, of me, (in the Short term) but i wouldn't
count on Staying there, if i were You !

Because the kite is pulling on strings, a pulling foil is always going to be more stable and fastest - if there is enough power from the wind.

What is needed is a way of controlling the pulling foil that a kiter can use to control it or even better, a foil that controls its depth by itself.

Do the rest of you even Know what Functional fixedness is ?
For your sake, you should look it up . :( Then tell me WHY all the production
hydrofoils for kite boarding, look Real close to what C A R A F I N O first invented ?

Looks like the have a line from the bow to the centerboard foil that controls the foil. As the boat sinks in, the float on that line hits the water and trims the foil for more lift. Then as the boat raises out of the water the float and more of the line comes out of the water and trims the foil for less lift.

The Moth sailboats (I think all of them) allow the skipper to trim the rudder foil by twisting the tiller extension.

Do kiteboards need a system like this or is it just easier to use your weight to change the angle of attack of the foil?

I cant see the video, so not sure what it is about, but all the moths these days also have a device hanging down into the water at the front, this also trims the foil to ride lower or higher depending on the wave height
